S13: Narbonne to Nimes: 2006 Chateau de Valcombe Costiere de Nimes Syrah Grenache

Mayor Sworder has this to say:

Renamed Costières de Nimes in the late 1980’s (it was formerly known as the Costières de Gard) this little known region lies just north of the Carmargues. The owner, Dominique Ricome, is justly proud that his two sons, Basile and Nicolas, have now joined him in the running of the estate, making the tenth generation of family ownership. The main Cuvée is easy and generous with warm soft spicy tannins, whilst ‘Tradition’, which is made from 70% Syrah with 30% Grenache, is more structured and concentrated.

and the invaluable TDF Lanterne Rouge (yeah, there’s more than one) records:

Bunch sprints followed by the whole peloton crossing the line do little to shake up the General Classification either for the leaders or for those listed at the bottom of the page. No DNSs or abandons or dramatic doping arrests today, but the finish was sure fun to watch.
